GOST 2.109-73

Random Section of GOST 2.109-73

1.1. General provisions

1.1.1. During development of detailed drawings, the following shall be provided:

a) optimal use of the standard and purchased articles as well as articles delivery and relevant to the current level of technology;

b) rationally limited range of threads, slots and other structural elements, their sizes, coatings, etc.;

c) rationally limited range of brands and assortments of materials as well as the use of the cheapest and least scarce materials;

d) the necessary degree of interchangeability, the most optimal methods to manufacture and repair articles as well as their maximum convenience in operation.

1.1.2. It shall be allowed to refer to the state, industrial, republican standards and technical regulations in drawings, if they completely and uniquely establish the relevant requirements.

When referring to technical regulations in drawings of articles of serial and mass production those regulations shall be registered in the established order.

It shall be allowed to refer to process instructions, when the requirements, established by these instructions, are only guaranteeing the required quality of article; moreover, they shall be attached to a set of design documentation for the article when transferring it to another company.

It shall be allowed to refer to standards of companies (associations) in drawings of by-articles.

It shall not be allowed to refer to individual items of standards, technical regulations and process instructions. If required, the drawing shall contain the reference to the entire document or a separate section.

It shall not be allowed to refer to documents that define the shape and dimensions of structural elements (bevels, grooves, etc.), if the relevant standards don’t contain symbols of these elements. All the data for their manufacture shall be shown in the drawings.

(Revised edition, Rev. No. 4).

1.1.3. Detailed drawing shall not be allowed to contain process instructions.

The following exceptions shall be allowed:

a) specify the methods of manufacture and control, if they are the only, guaranteeing the required quality of articles, for example, joint machining, joint bending or beading, etc.;

b) instruct on selection of process templates (casting, forgings, etc.);

c) specify a certain process method that guarantees ensuring of individual technical requirements for article, which are impossible to express by objective indexes or values, such as the ageing process, vacuum impregnation, bonding technology, control, interfacing of plunger pair, etc.

1.1.4. It shall be allowed to place various instructions on articles manufacturing technique and control on drawings for articles of the basic single* and auxiliary production.

* Rules of drawing execution of single articles also apply to auxiliary production.

1.1.5. The drawings shall use symbols (characters, lines, alphabetic and alphanumeric characters), established in the state standards.

The legend shall be used without explanation on drawing and without specifying number of the standard. The exceptions are the symbols, which specify number of the standard. For example, centering hole С 12 GOST 14034-74.

1. If there are no the appropriate symbols specified in the state standards, the symbols, established in the industrial standards shall be applied with mandatory references to them.

2. It shall be allowed to use symbols, which are not provided in the state and industrial standards. In such cases, symbols shall be explained in the drawing margin.

1.1.6. Sizes of symbols, which are not established in the standards, shall be determined based on demonstrativeness and clarity of the drawing and maintained identical at multiple repeat.

1.1.7. Detailed drawing of article shall specify dimensions, limit deviations, surface roughness and other data, which it shall comply with, prior to assembly (figure 1a).

The exception is the case, specified in item 1.1.8.

Dimensions, limit deviations and surface roughness of article elements, obtained in a result of treatment during assembling process or after it, shall be specified in assembly drawing (figure 1b).

(Revised edition, Rev. No. 3).

1.1.8. The article, where there is allowance for the following machining of individual elements within assembly process provided during manufacturing, shall be shown in drawing with dimensions, extreme deviations and other data, which the article shall comply with after final machining. Such dimensions shall be put in round brackets and make the record like: “Dimensions in brackets – after assembly” in technical requirements (figure 1c).
