GOST 12.1.005-88

Random Section of GOST 12.1.005-88

1.6 In the process of ensuring the permissible values of microclimate characteristics the temperature of the internal surface of the working zone walling (its walls, floor, ceiling etc.) or devices (baffles etc.) must not exceed the limits of the permissible air temperature values provided in Table 1 for specific classes of activities. The permissible temperature drop in the vertical plane of the working zone shall not exceed 3 °C.

            The permissible temperature fluctuations in the horizontal plane of the working zone as well as during the shift shall not exceed 4 °C for light work activities, 5 °C for medium hard work activities and 6 °C for hard works, while absolute values of air temperature measured at various heights and in different areas of the working zone during the shift shall not exceed the limits of permissible values provided in Table 1.

            Requirements 1.5 and 1.6 to the internal surface temperature of the walling and devices shall not be applicable to the temperature of the rooms and workplaces cooling and heating systems.

            1.7 In the process of ensuring the optimal and permissible values of microclimate characteristics during cold seasons the protection of workplaces against radiant cooling through glazed surfaces of window openings must be provided, during warm seasons the workplaces must be protected against penetration of direct sunlight.

            1.8 The intensity of the workers infrared irradiation produced by the heated surfaces of the equipment, lighting devices, insolation at the permanent and temporary workplaces must not exceed 35 W/m2 for irradiation of 50% or more of the body surface, 70 W/m2 for the exposure of 25 to 50% of the body surface, and 100 W/m2 for exposure of up to 25% of the body surface.

            The intensity of the workers infrared irradiation produced by open sources (hot metal, glass, “open” flame etc.) must not exceed 140 W/m2 provided that no more than 25% of the body surface can be exposed and the use of individual protection equipment including face and eyes protection is obligatory.

            If the infrared irradiation is present the temperature at the workplaces must not exceed the upper limits of optimal values for warm seasons at temporary workplaces and upper limits of permissible values for permanent workplaces provided in Table 1.

            1.9 In industrial premises located in the fourth construction climate zone, determined in accordance with the Construction Norms and Rules for climatology and geophysics approved by State Committee for Construction of the USSR, provided that the overheating prevention requirements 1.11 are observed, the upper limit of the permissible air temperature during warm seasons given in Table 1, can be increased for permanent and temporary workplaces respectively:

            not exceeding 31 and 32 °C – for light work activities;

            not exceeding 30 and 31 °C – for medium hard work activities;

            not exceeding 29 and 30 °C – for hard work activities.

            Under this conditions the air flow speed must be increased by 0.1 m/s and the relative air humidity must be decreased by 5% per each degree of the temperature increase beginning from the upper limits of permissible values of air temperature provided in Table 1 for specific classes of work activities in warm seasons.
